Secondary Science Fair
Secondary students prepared many things to show guests with their experiments, such as black sugar, magical Cola, Volcano Eruption, measuring pH, what magnets can do, elephant toothpaste, spoons lava, and many more. Besides that, our 11th-grade students were assigned to make hand soap, and the 12th graders were also asked to make detergents with the same ingredients as any other that already exist. In addition, there was also a science projects exhibition that could also be demonstrated when the Primary and Preschool students came to visit their booth.
“Making this hand soap & detergent are related to saponification, rather than they only know about the reaction, I asked them to make it.” Said Miss Ira Isnawati, Science Teacher for Lower Secondary & Chemistry and Physics Teacher for grades 11 and 12.
Both projects are made with the same ingredients as any other hand soap and detergents that already exist. “For hand soap, we only use base material, but the results are not so different, just not too thick like other soaps. For detergent, we make it with the same ingredients, so the results are really the same as the usual detergent. The process is about 3 weeks, including testing on clothes too.” added Ms. Ira.
In addition, the 11th-grade exhibition, a volcanic eruption was prepared which could also be demonstrated when the Primary and Preschool students came to visit their booth. The mountain material was made from newspaper, water, glue, potassium permanganate, and unused bottle. The material itself is a part zero waste movement, we want to show that we can always make something useful from recycled materials.
