Science Week MHIS Secondary

Students learn in a variety of ways. Hands-on activities let the students’ minds to grow and learn, based on the experiences and environment they are exposed to. The expression “hands-on” and “minds-on”, summarize the philosophy that incorporated in these activities – namely that students will learn best, if they are actively engaged, and if their activities are closely linked to the understanding of important concepts. To enhance student learning and understanding, many of our activities provide a learning sequence which includes creating a product and applying concept to the real object.

This semester, the theme of Science Week was “Technology” and was delivered in a workshop, in which teachers guided the students to create an object to simplify science concepts. This workshop was planned as an early step to introduce the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, which is a challenge of world’s educators nowadays to fulfill the talent gap between “school environments” and “society”.

Junior High students competed to create “water rockets”. This competition challenged the students to work in teams, to produce an aerodynamic rocket body with the launcher, including how to make the rocket to fly as high as possible. Congratulations, winners!
