Art week is one of the biggest and most important events in DC to teach the kids about cultural and art values. This time the theme was Betawi Culture. The event was held for five days from the 22nd to 26th of January 2018. Let’s take a look of some of the activities!
Day 4: Gerobak Day
It’s time for Gerobak Day again! In this program, the teachers teach the students how to interact with other people through the buying and selling process. The purpose of this month’s Gerobak Day is to introduce Betawi’s delicacies to Mutiara Harapan Islamic School’s students. Some of the stuff they were selling was made by the students such as kembang kelapa and es selendang mayang. Alhamdulillah, all the student were so excited about this Gerobak Day. They all came and asked the DC students all about what they’re selling and of course they also bought it.
Day 5: The Performance Day
Finally, it’s the final day of DC’s art week. The students did a performance to show what they had learnt and experienced all week. The performance started with Dehan who recited surah Ar-Rahman. The second performance was by Shouji who read a poem. As for the female students, they performed a Betawi traditional dance. The highlight of this event was when all of the male students did a martial art performance with traditional music. The day ended with the game of congklak played by all the students. What an exciting week!
